Staying connected to the "outside world" has been rather difficult for us in the last few weeks. The laptop started locking up, and after running a few diagnostics I determined that it had some bad sectors on the portion of the hard disk where the system files lived. I ordered a new hard drive, which arrived yesterday. This morning I installed it and restored the system back to the way it was when Toshiba shipped it from the factory. I'll reload all of the software that we use that was NOT shipped from the factory (like Firefox, GSAK, WinAmp and 3D Home Architect), restore all of our bookmarks, documents, and music (I do have all of that backed up on an external hard drive, thankfully!), and hopefully have it back to regular by this weekend.
Heather has been a good sport about having to go down into the basement to check her email and facebook on the old (read "slow") desktop computer that is set up down there. I tried to rig up an older laptop that Rick had given me just for internet access while ours was down, but that only lasted for a day or two before it bit the dust too (hard disk fatal errors).
So, for those of you following Heather on Facebook or Xanga or Ravelry or wherever she hangs out these days, she should be back to posting more regularly now!
However, I probably won't be any more regular than I have been (considering that when I DO update, it's usually from work, and it is the old-fashioned method of posting -- on this website -- which you are reading right now!).
