It is DONE !

Eight months later, we are finally done in our legal dealings with our former landlords.

I had filed an affidavit of non-compliance on Tuesday, and after Betty received that notice in the mail, she sent this response to me:

RE: Docket #05-SC-248

Matt:

Enclosed please find a check in the amount of $29.76, which should satisfy the balance due on this court matter. Gary did not give me the paperwork he received at court stating the additional fees. I would just like you to know that we feel that you should not hold yourself blameless in this whole incident. You were well aware that you would be moving out at the end of your lease, and telling us of your situation on such short notice stinks. Also, you should be ashamed of yourself for lying in court when you told the judge that we did not tell you that you could stay another month. I think you are a sanctimonious prig who doesn't know the meaning of the word decency. Please take your $29.76 and 'stick it where the sun don't shine'.

So, I took the check to their bank today and cashed it, then stopped by the court to let them know that payment was made in full. The hearing that was scheduled will be cancelled, and the matter is closed. I did want to make sure that the court actually did receive a copy of this very professionally written letter.

I think it interesting that Betty wrote this letter, leaving Gary out of it completely (except to blame him for not giving her the paperwork). I think this proves my theory that she was the one that I was really dealing with - even though my original complaint was with Gary.

It's also interesting that Betty seems to believe that we were given permission to remain. We were told that we read the lease wrong when we asked for one more month. We were never told it would be okay to stay. And if we were to follow the terms of their lease, that permission would have had to have been written out and agreed upon by both parties.

Well, it's been a long road, but justice has finally prevailed. I guess I don't really care what the Raymonds think of me, because we were actually good tenants. They're going to have an interesting time of it if they get a tenant in there who is out to "play the system"...

All said and done, we've only really lost time in this matter (and maybe some brain cells trying to read through their poorly-written letters). It is a good feeling to finally have all of this behind us. Thank you everyone for your prayers throughout the ordeal.
